Why we exist.
our story
At Kindred we seek connection with God, community with one another, & care for our city. We believe in the power of relationships and that life is better together. Kindred is a place to grow spiritually, at your own pace, starting right where you are.
We belong to god.
We belong to God. He created us and therefore knows us deeply and intimately. He has a specific purpose and plan for our life. We are first and foremost children of God, adopted into his forever family by the redemptive work of Jesus Christ on the cross. God calls us by name and we are his.
If we live, we live for the Lord; and if we die, we die for the Lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord. -Romans 14:8
But now, this is what the LORD says - he who created you, Jacob, he who formed you, Israel: “Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine. -Isaiah 43:1
We belong to
Each Other.
We belong to each other. We are more than strangers and neighbors and friends - we are deeply connected to one another by faith in Jesus. We each possess unique gifts that contribute to the health and wholeness of our community. We are marked by the kind of service and love that extends and transforms the world well beyond our zip code.
For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you. For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. - Romans 12:3-5
CORE VALUES
This is what you can count on this community to be.
This is who we are to each other, and to the world.
Grace. Open.
in process. Honest.
We are a community who embraces the messy nature of life. There is patience for being in process. We are open about the ways we struggle and wrestle.
Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need. -Hebrews 4:16
See also Philippians 1:6 & Romans 3:23.
Truth. Foundation. Constant.
God’s Word is our unchanging, solid foundation. Scripture is our sound source of what is true and right. It holds up in our reality, and holds every part of our life together.
The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. - John 1:14
See also 2 Timothy 3:16-17 & Hebrews 13:8.
Human.
Authentic.
Warm. Kind.
We share God’s work in our lives with joy and gratitude. What you see is what you get. We believe Jesus has something for you, we don’t want anything from you.
Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. - Romans 12:9
See also Colossians 3:12 & Matthew 5:37.
Humble. Sacrificial. Generous.
We are defined by humility, service, and generosity. Our life is enriched when we give to others. We are committed to serving the powerless, and under-resourced.
Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.
-Philippians 2:3-4
