ADVENT 2022
season 02, 08.05 | love is with us
It’s Christmas! We look at the fourth candle of Advent: Love. Jesus, love embodied, is born; a Savior with the world he loves. We celebrate this truth as we explore what it means for us now in 2022.
season 02, 08.03 | vulnerable
Tonight we continue the conversation about God becoming flesh. We draw our attention to how Jesus’ humanity demanded and required that his flesh be vulnerable just like ours - that his body held within it the exact human needs, desires, and weaknesses as ours do outside of sin. Together we explore the implications of his humanness, it being the key to empathy and our salvation.
season 02, 08.02 | expecting
The gospel of John describes the way the Word (Jesus) became flesh and made his dwelling among us. Tonight we consider how this flesh took form in the womb of a pregnant Mary. We explore the very human dimensions of this story from the perspective of a new mom, and how they reveal the character of God and invite us to encounter his presence in fresh ways this Advent.
season 02, 08.01 | light
We begin the Advent season by taking a look at Hope and Light. Advent means “arrival” in Latin and has come to mean “waiting” in our contemporary understanding. At the time of Jesus’s birth, the wait was for rescue from oppression and darkness brought by a ruling Empire – they waited and hoped for Light to come. Today, we also are looking for that Hope and Light, in our trials and in our triumphs – Christmas brings us a great chance to connect to the same Savior that has always been the only One to bring true life.
