exodus 2023

season 03, 01.21 | (not the same) as it was

We have reached the final chapters of Exodus! Moses is leaving behind a legacy of law and obedience; his life represents sacrifice in service to God and a commitment to the rhythms and ways of God’s people. While his life is exemplary in many ways, he ultimately points us forward to the saving work of Jesus Christ. Tonight we take comfort in remembering the faithfulness of Jesus, that he has done the work of fulfilling every command given to Moses on our behalf. He is our assurance, our peace, and our clarity in all that we face.

season 03, 01.20 | bulls on parade

Moses has received instructions for creating a grand place to worship the LORD, but like the Creation story of Genesis, peoples’ need for control gets in the way. What are the things that we lean on, turning them into idols that cause us to miss the simplicity and beauty of the invitation from Jesus to be free? We explore this question by looking at a party, a Golden Bull, and our own hearts.

season 03, 01.19 | among us

As we move into chapters 24-31, we find that God desires to dwell among his people. It is this motivation that inspires him to instruct the people of Israel to build a Tabernacle – a home for the presence of God. As we explore the incredible detail, precision, and architectural specificity for this tent in the wilderness we will discover echoes of Jesus, his life, and the way he has made his home among us.

season 03, 01.18 | god’s maternal love

This is a short departure from our chronological Exodus study in honor of Mother’s Day coming up this weekend. We explore the way motherhood uniquely illuminates dimensions of God’s character, the way God purposefully chose maternal images , pictures and metaphors to describe and reveal God’s own posture and love for us, dignifying women and moms, and lastly, how healthy expressions of motherhood can provide us a window into God’s heart, enriching our own connection and relationship with God no matter who you are.

Tonight we are joined by law student Graham Stevenson to discuss the next section of law in Exodus (chapters 21-23). Then, we explore the way Israel was shaped by law, and we ask the question: what shapes each of us?

Commandments 5-10 of the famous Ten Commandments focus on the way we relate to one another and what it really means to love our neighbor as ourself. season 03, 01.06 | let’s get weird

season 03, 01.04 | the most reluctant convert

Moses is into his fourth decade chasing sheep as a shepherd when he meets the God of his people speaking from a strange fire. As he encounters the God that calls himself “I AM,” his “conversion” experience will come with a lot of reluctance and doubt. We meet this head-on with our own stories and struggles in the collision of Jesus, who tells us “I am the way, the truth, and the life.” Tonight we connect the two ideas in one offer of freedom and real life.

He makes some big choices that lead to his exile and some huge life changes.
