galatians 2022
season 02, 01.10 | A call to interdependence
This is the final week of our journey through the book of Galatians. In chapter 6, Paul begins to describe what gospel freedom and life in the Spirit begins to look like when it’s lived out and practiced in a community with others. We explore what it might look like for us to embrace Paul's vision for the church today and embrace interdependence as he describes it here in the final chapter of Galatians.
season 02, 01.09 | faithfulness & fruit
Paul has taken us through passage after passage in Galatians that highlights the difference between living however we want to (“in the flesh”) and living according to the Spirit. What does it look like to live this out? What does it mean to produce good fruit as a follower of Jesus? We look to two lists that Paul tells us are the key to discovering who we really are.
season 02, 01.08 | stand firm in freedom
As we continue to walk through Galatians and talk about the freedom that we have in Jesus, the war in Ukraine gives us a real-time look at what it means to stand firm in our freedom. As we draw on the history of Ukraine to unpack Paul’s words written to the Galatian church, we will uncover what real freedom in Christ looks like and how it changes everything for us.
season 02, 01.07 | Beware of backsliding
Here at the beginning of chapter 4, we see Paul make a strong warning to the Galatians. These new believers had left behind the fear and control of their old pagan way of life as they started following Jesus, but he worried they were trading one set of chains for another. Tonight we explore this illusion of freedom in our own lives and where we can turn when we find ourselves slipping back into old chains.
season 02, 01.06 | The King’s kids
We’ve about reached the end of chapter 3 of Paul’s letter to the Galatians when he starts talking about this relationship with God in much for familial and familiar terms. He declares a new identity for those with faith in Jesus as children of God. Tonight, we talk about the implications of this new status on our life and what it truly means to be the King’s kids.
season 02, 01.05 | cut that meat!
Paul continues to try to convince the Galatians that grace through faith I the only thing that they need to be justified to God. To further drive the point home, he returns to the example of Abraham. Tonight, we go back to Genesis 15 to explore the reference Paul makes and why it matters to us 2,000 years later.
season 02, 01.04 | the curse of kmart cologne
Paul begins to shift his focus here in Galatians chapter 3. Since it's only by grace through faith in Jesus that we are saved, Paul wants to address this important question: How then does a Christian grow? Tonight we discover what it might look like to be motivated by the Spirit instead of returning to the burden of the law.
season 02, 01.03 | fear & loathing in Antioch
Peter and Paul find themselves in Antioch, an important city in the Galatian region, where they encounter the messy part of belief systems merging and growing. When Peter allows fear to drive him away from the Good News of his faith, what can we learn from the manner in which Paul corrects him?
season 02, 01.02 | freedom from & to
Paul is alarmed and concerned about what’s going on in Galatia as the truth of the gospel was being twisted by a group of teachers that had infiltrated these Jerusalem churches. Chapter two of the book of Galatians begins with a meeting between Paul, these teachers, and the leaders of the Jerusalem church. In this passage, we discover why Paul fought so fiercely to protect the freedom we have in Christ and we explore exactly what this freedom means for our faith and our churches.
Season 02, 01.01 | Already & not yet
We begin our study of Galatians by taking a look at why Paul wrote this letter, who he wrote it to, and why. In an environment of contention, with ideas as great commerce, Paul enters into a debate between several groups: what is salvation – how do humans attain it, and why does it sometimes seem like nothing has changed in the world? Paul writes with authority and sternness, but also with joy and hope as he helps us understand true freedom and grace through faith.
